There’s only one Jumbo Jubilee

PROJECT UPDATE | 2 MIN READING TIME

There’s only one Jumbo Jubilee.

Precision planning, expert execution, and unmatched versatility: How the Jumbo Jubilee delivered a complex heavy-lift project in shallow waters.

Engineered precision.
Flawless execution.

The Jumbo Jubilee was the only vessel in the JSI Alliance fleet capable of handling the complex loading of a 1,035-tonne upend hinge in the shallow port of Ras Al Khaimah. Through expert planning and precise execution, the team delivered the cargo safely and efficiently – demonstrating the vessel’s unique capabilities and the crew’s outstanding expertise.

An extensive engineering study was conducted to determine the right vessel for this project. The results confirmed that, within the JSI Alliance fleet, the Jumbo Jubilee was uniquely suited for the job. Her shallow draft and anti-heeling system made her the only vessel in our fleet capable of safely loading the 1,035 tonne upend hinge (UHE) and additional components in the shallow berth of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), UAE.

Built for the challenge

Effective JSI Alliance scheduling meant we already had cargo bound for Ras Laffan, optimising efficiency and minimising additional costs for the client.

The loading operation presented a series of complex challenges that demanded precision planning and expert execution. Key hurdles included:

  • Coordinating with a challenging engineering interface
  • Managing a critical lifting height with a tailored rigging arrangement
  • Operating within the vessel’s maximum draft constraints

One of the most critical tasks was the careful maneuvering required to load the upend hinge (UHE) between the cranes, a feat that tested spatial limits and timing.

In the end, the lift went by the book, with all cargo fitting precisely as engineered. Port Captain Pablo Curutchet and Engineer Ricardo Miltenburg were on-site to oversee the loading operation.

They noted, “The most exciting part of delivering a project like this is working at the very edge of the vessel’s capabilities, pushing limits while staying within safety margins. This is exactly what these ships are built for!”

A showcase of versatility

After a successful departure from the Persian Gulf, the Jumbo Jubilee set sail for her discharge berth in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. There, the cargo was carefully offloaded over the course of a few bright, sunny days.

This project cargo will support upcoming Van Oord offshore wind projects.

Despite the complexities involved, JSI Alliance once again demonstrated the exceptional capability of its fleet.

The operation highlighted the advantages of Jumbo’s small, shallow-draft vessels, which are uniquely suited for loading and discharging heavy, oversized cargoes in ports with limited draft or infrastructure.

This project stands as yet another testament to our team’s flexibility, expertise, and commitment to excellence in the heavy lift sector.

A special thank you to our engineering team and tireless crew for their outstanding efforts!
